Copyright and Creative Commons
Copyright means you can't copy anything without asking the owner for permission. Anytime you take or copy someone’s work without permission, whether it's an image, a song, a movie, a computer game, etc you are breaking the Copyright law. If you have taken an image from the Internet, copied a music track or uploaded someone’s work to a website, you are breaking Copyright. You are also breaking Copyright if you copy something off the web and post it somewhere public.
There are times when we can use content from the Internet, e.g. when we use it in the classroom. Please make sure that you add a website link at the end of your work to show where it came from. This is giving credit to the creator of the work.
Creative Commons can be images, audio, movies, etc where the creator has given permission for them to be shared. There are a variety of different licenses for Creative Commons. There are different ways you can easily search for Creative Commons content on the Internet.
If you want to use Google search to find images, this is what you need to do. Go to Google Images, type in what you are looking for. Click on 'Search Tools' and in the drop down menu click on 'labelled for reuse'. (See image below.) This means you can reuse the image with approval from the owner.
